I like the 2nd battery cartridge (for AAA batteries)for use if the primary cartridge fails. I set it up to scan 9, 16, and several of the channels that the charter captains use. I really like the scan feature. The unit appears to be well made and holds a charge very well. This is a solid piece of equipment. The sound quality is very good, and the volume is plenty loud to hear over my outboard motor. I fish on Lake Michigan and listen to the fishing reports all day.
I use it for hailing cabs, making dinner reservations, checking on marinas and anything else where you would normally use a telephone. I'll give it a good test this June during our annual trek to Abaco, Bahamas. I got this to replace an older, larger radio. So far, so good. Over there, marine radios are used as telephones since there are so many islands you hop to and from in your rental boat.
I haven't needed to call SeaTow for help yet. This product is great for getting the current weather at home or traveling to the marina, before you get on the water. It leaves me with a sense of insuranceon the water.Rick Wisz, Pequannock, NJ
